Neurodiversity Unravelled:

Rebrand incoming

The Unravelling of Neurodiversity: Autism Unravelled is now trading under the name of Neurodiversity Unravelled

We are excited to launch Neurodiversity Unravelled! The directors Louise Lawrence and Dr Rebecca Varrall have decided to rebrand our service from Autism Unravelled to Neurodiversity Unravelled as we feel this better reflects the wide range of our work and our understanding of the overlapping nature of neurodivergent conditions.

At Neurodiversity Unravelled we continue to take a neuro-affirming, strengths-based approach to our assessments, therapy and support, and we remain committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate assessment, therapy and support to ensure positive outcomes for neurodivergent individuals. With every person or family we work with, we take time to consider each unique individual’s diverse needs, and aim to work alongside to support them as they develop their own understanding.

Evolving from Autism Unravelled to Neurodiversity Unravelled

Autism Unravelled was founded in 2017 with the desire to create a service that worked with individuals and families across the lifespan. A service which people could build a relationship with and return to for support at different points of their lives. Since our beginning in 2017, our team has grown and we have worked with amazing people to be a part of their understanding of neurodiversity and what it means for them. We have diversified our work to include assessment of ADHD and ASC, and we think holistically about the individual.

Yet we reached a point where the name Autism Unravelled no longer felt like it truly represented the scope of our work and the interconnected nature of neurodivergent conditions. With our new name Neurodiversity Unravelled we are embracing an identity that reflects the breadth and depth of our work. Neurodiversity Unravelled is not just a new title; it is a declaration of our dedication to exploring the rich tapestry of neurodivergent experiences.

Our rebranding mirrors the ever-expanding understanding of neurodiversity, recognising the spectrum of neurodivergent conditions as broad, diverse, and overlapping in nature to include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia.

The decision to change our name demonstrates our commitment to understanding how neurodivergent individuals perceive and interact with the world. We recognise that each person's brain functions uniquely and wonderfully, and by embracing this diversity, we can provide more tailored and efficient support.

The power of neurodivergent overlaps

There are many overlaps in terms of neurodivergent conditions and the differences that individuals experience with executive functioning (planning, prioritising, completing tasks) and sensory experiences in particular.

Recognising the overlap of neurodivergent conditions allows us to foster a more empathetic understanding of the neurodivergent experience. It emphasises the importance of moving beyond singular labels and diagnoses to appreciate the full spectrum of an individual's neurodiversity. For our team at Neurodiversity Unravelled, assessment, therapy and support is about more than just identifying a condition; it is about understanding the person behind the diagnosis, their challenges, their strengths, and how they interact with the world around them.

Opening the door to understanding – what this means for you

Often when people reach out to us they are uncertain of what may be most helpful for them. They may have read or heard about autism or ADHD and feel that something resonates with them or a member of their family, and they wish to explore this further in a supportive and compassionate setting. Because of the different approaches people have to thinking about their own diversity, we offer a range of services to best support them – from an initial strengths-based assessment through to a comprehensive diagnostic assessment. When you work with our team, you have someone who will walk this path alongside you, offering guidance, support, and validation every step of the way. We have an array of assessments designed to celebrate and embrace your unique neurodiverse identity.

Our comprehensive and compassionate approach ensures that you receive the personalised care essential for navigating the complexities of neurodiversity. We are committed to providing the tools, resources, and support needed for you to thrive in your neurodivergent journey with empathy, respect, and affirmation.

Louise Lawrence, co-director of Neurodiversity Unravelled, said, “At Neurodiversity Unravelled, we believe in providing gold-standard, thorough assessments that capture the unique strengths, differences and challenges faced by our neurodivergent clients. We are committed to providing a compassionate service that is tailored to the child, young person, family, or educational placements’ specific goals."

At Neurodiversity Unravelled, we:

  • Work with children, young people and families;

  • Specialise in working with female presentation of autism and ADHD through expert knowledge and additional measures to support the standardised assessment tools;

  • Work with adults keen to understand themselves and if neurodivergence fits for them;

  • Work with educators to develop their expertise, through training and therapeutic support within schools, nurseries and specialist provisions.

We work closely with schools and educators to provide bespoke support through ad hoc and service level agreements, which include staff training and supervision, parent-staff liaison, and delivering therapeutic intervention within the school environment.

Working in partnership with schools allows us to support the generalisation of skills and systemic change to develop neuro-affirmative environments.

We advocate for a society that acknowledges, embraces, and cherishes the differences in cognitive functioning as a source of strength and innovation.

Through this lens, we seek to inspire change, promote understanding, and champion the rights of neurodivergent individuals to live fully and authentically.

At Neurodiversity Unravelled we celebrate the power of difference and make sense of unique characteristics to harness strengths.

We are committed to

Valuing Differences and Harnessing Strengths
