🌍 Exploring Neurodiversity at Sidcot School 🌍

On October 7th, we had the pleasure of speaking at Sidcot School's Neurodiversity Conference, where we, alongside Sidcot's Neurodiversity Network and expert speaker Fin O'Regan, engaged with over fifty educational professionals from the South West to discuss fostering a more inclusive environment for neurodivergent students.

Our co-founders, Louise Lawrence and Dr. Rebecca Varrall, shared insights on embracing a neuro-affirmative approach, which acknowledges that each brain works uniquely. With 20% of the population being neurodivergent, it’s crucial to recognize the diversity within this group. We discussed ways to support individual learning needs and enhance students' self-esteem by enabling them to advocate for themselves in the classroom.

From understanding conditions like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia to practical strategies for classroom adjustments, we emphasized that accommodations don't change the curriculum but create equitable access to mastering it. We hope to see more schools adopting this approach to ensure all students thrive.
